Here Paca, Paca!

Woohoo! The excitement is still high over here on the farm as we welcomed our lovely little family of Huacaya alpacas a few weeks ago. My herd originated in Saskatchewan on Country Vista farm, a beautiful farm lovingly managed by a couple of really amazing people that now have to put up with me inviting myself into their family! Sorry, not sorry!

I don't even know where to begin, which is why I didn't, couldn't, write this post any earlier. I'm a new mother and you know how that is, constant watching, worrying and hoping that these new lives you've chosen to be responsible for actually thrive under your care. It's been a lot to take in and I'm happy to say that in the three weeks my new babies have been on the farm, they're all still alive, and thriving...I think. As a new mom I am still learning the ropes with the alpacas because it doesn't matter how much research you've done, how much networking and question asking, you're going to see or hear something and panic the hell out! Which I did when it rained for nearly six days straight my first week. I was a mess, well so were the soaked alpacas, and had to be reassured several times over by my mentor that these animals have the second warmest coat and with minimal care will do well. We all made it through and I've learned to recognize that my alpacas have a hum of complaint but, more on the humming later.

Being new to farm life has been a series of ups and downs...from tractors breaking down, to not being aware that hay is a hot commodity. It's been a lot to take in over the last six months and now that we have our girls, have sold off all of our pesky roosters and now have a full component of cats and dogs, I look forward to just enjoying fall and winter with our big four legged family.

Here are some photos of our alpacas who truly are the most gentle and sweetly curious animals I've ever had the good fortune to be around. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Yarah again, see what I mean about the grass? Photobomber is little Evie!

Wow, I'm about six months in to having my alpaca farm so with your permission, I'm going to refer to myself as a farmer now. Of course I...
